  3.                             INSTALLATION PROBLEMS
  4.                    (Applies to ReachOut versions 4.X, 5.X)

  8.       BACKGROUND
  9.       
  10.       Installations on most systems is trouble-free. In some few
  11.       instances users have reported the problems below:
  12.       
  13.         1. Gives GPF's in Windows or other Windows Errors during
  14.            installation.
  15.         2. Won't read second / third disk.
  16.         3. Freezes on the way into Windows during installation.
  17.         4. Freezes part way through the installation.
  18.         5. Won't create the ReachOut group in Windows.
  19.         6. The computer does not have a 3.5" 1.44meg floppy drive.
  20.            
  21.       SOLUTION
  22.       
  23.       If the problem is 1, 2, 3, or 4 above:
  24.       
  25.        1.  Exit Windows completely.
  26.        2.  At the DOS prompt, create a temporary directory called RO.
  27.        3.  Copy all files from all of the ReachOut disks to the RO
  28.            directory.
  29.        4.  From that directory, type: INSTALLD <enter>. Note the "D" at
  30.            the end of the command.
  31.        5.  Follow the installation prompts on the screen for Full or
  32.            Custom.
  33.        6.  After the installation is complete, start Windows.
  34.        7.  In Windows pull down File to Run and enter the command line:
  35.            "C:\REACHOUT\SETUP.EXE"
  36.        8.  Under ReachOut's setup program re-enter the communications
  37.            parameters.
  38.        9.  Under ReachOut's setup program pull down File to "Create
  39.            Group".
  40.        10. Delete the RO temporary directory and its contents.
  41.        11. The installation is compete.
  42.  
  43.       If the program is not creating the ReachOut group during a
  44.       Windows installation:
  45.       
  46.       If Version 4.X
  47.       
  48.        1.  Pull down Program Manager's File menu to New and create a
  49.            new Group called ReachOut.
  50.        2.  Pull down Program Manager's File menu to New and create a
  51.            new Item. Create the following items repeating this step for
  52.            each one:

  54.       Host Menu            C:\REACHOUT\HOSTMENU.EXE      C:\REACHOUT
  55.       Viewer Menu          C:\REACHOUT\VIEWMENU.EXE      C:\REACHOUT
  56.       Configuration        C:\REACHOUT\SETUP.EXE         C:\REACHOUT
  57.       Terminal Emulator    C:\REACHOUT\RCHTERM.EXE       C:\REACHOUT
  58.       Remote Access Map    C:\REACHOUT\RAMAP.EXE         C:\REACHOUT
  59.       Remote Access Server C:\REACHOUT\RASERVER.EXE      C:\REACHOUT
  60.       
  61.       If Version 5.X
  62.       
  63.        1.  Edit the PROGMAN.INI file in  the Windows directory
  64.        2.  In the [Groups] section of the PROGMAN.INI file, add the
  65.            entry "groupX=c:\Reachout\Reachout.grp", where X is one
  66.            number higher than the highest number listed in any other
  67.            "groupX=" statements.
  68.        3.  In the [Settings] section of the PROGMAN.INI file, add the
  69.            number used in X above to the ôorder=ô line.
  70.        4.  Restart Windows for the change to take effect.
  71.            
  72.       If the computer does not have a 3.5" 1.44 floppy drive
  73.       
  74.        1.  Go to any other computer that has a 3.5" 1.44meg drive and a
  75.            drive like the one where you wish to install ReachOut. This
  76.            is usually a 5.25" drive.
  77.        2.  Create a temporary directory called RO on the computer.
  78.        3.  Copy all files from the installation diskettes to the RO
  79.            directory.
  80.        4.  Copy the files from the RO directory to the diskettes that
  81.            can be read on the target computer. Keep in mind that only
  82.            so many files will fit on each diskette. But it does not
  83.            matter in which order they appear on these diskettes.
  84.        5.  On the target computer where you are installing ReachOut,
  85.            create a temporary directory called RO.
  86.        6.  Copy all the files from the diskettes in step 4 to the RO
  87.            directory.
  88.        7.  From the RO directory run "INSTALL."
  89.        8.  After a successful installation, delete the RO directories
  90.            from all computers.
